In general, anyone born in Canada will automatically become a Canadian citizen. However, there are several ways for anyone who wants to obtain Canadian citizenship to do so. However, if the applicant is a child is under the age of 18, the following circumstances must be met:
1. The child must be a permanent resident
2. The child does not have to have lived in Canada for three years
3. The child’s parent, adoptive parent, or legal guardian, and one of the parents is already a Canadian citizen or is in the process of applying to become a citizen. This applies for adoptive parents also.
There are prohibitions on an individual applying for Canadian citizenship if a criminal history is present.
