Reunite with your loved ones in Canada through the Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship Program (PGP)
If you’re a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, you can sponsor your parents or grandparents to become permanent residents (PR) of Canada under the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP).
At Lakes Land Immigration, our team of licensed immigration consultants based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, helps families from around the world bring their parents and grandparents to Canada — fast, legally, and stress-free.
What is the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP)?
The Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) is an immigration stream offered by IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) that allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents or grandparents for permanent residency in Canada.
This is different from the Super Visa, which only allows temporary stays. Under PGP, your parents or grandparents can live in Canada permanently and eventually apply for Canadian citizenship.
Who Can Sponsor Their Parents or Grandparents?
To be eligible to sponsor your parents or grandparents, you must:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or registered under the Indian Act
- Reside in Canada
- Meet the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) for the past 3 consecutive tax years
Sign a sponsorship undertaking agreement to support your parents/grandparents financially for 20 years
Income Requirements for Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship (PGP)
To sponsor your parents or grandparents under PGP, you must show proof of sufficient income based on your family size and meet the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) for the last three taxation years.
Here is a simplified income table (subject to change annually):
Family Size | 2023 | 2022 | 2021 |
2 people | $45,000 | $44,000 | $43,000 |
3 people | $55,000 | $53,000 | $51,000 |
4 people | $66,000 | $64,000 | $62,000 |

To sponsor under the PGP, you will need:
- Proof of Status in Canada (PR Card, Citizenship certificate, etc.)
- Notice of Assessment (NOA) from CRA for the last 3 years
- Proof of relationship (birth certificate, passport, etc.)
- Undertaking agreement (financial support for 20 years)

Lakes Land Immigration ensures 100% compliant and complete applications, reducing delays or refusals.
When and How to Apply for PGP?
PGP is not open year-round. Instead, IRCC opens an “Interest to Sponsor” window, where applicants can submit an online form to express their interest.
Steps to apply:
- Submit an “Interest to Sponsor” form on IRCC’s website (when intake opens)
- If selected via lottery, submit your full PR application within the given deadline
- Wait for a decision (processing times average 20–24 months)
🔔 Stay up to date on PGP opening dates — Lakes Land Immigration tracks the intake window and can notify you immediately when it opens.
Can I Apply for PGP as a Family?
Yes! You can sponsor both parents and grandparents under one application, provided you meet the income requirement for the total family size (including spouse, children, and each parent or grandparent sponsored).
